Art After Work: A New & Inspiring Event

By Mariah Baumgartle, Contributing Writer

Thursday, September 7th, I attended a great event at the St. George Art Museum called Art After Work. Art After Work is a new monthly event, which I highly encourage all adults to attend.

I have always been interested in the culture and art of Ancient Greece, but have never taken the time to learn about it. The museum’s Curator, Deborah Reeder, gave a great slide presentation about the culture and art in Ancient Greece. Between sculptures, symbolism, Gods and Goddesses, and interesting facts about their culture, there was so much to learn and absorb within the hour we had with Deborah.

Art After Work is not only a great way to meet new people, but you also learn so much! I think this is very important for adults. We often forget that even though we are out of school, we still need to find time to learn something new. When you learn something new it can spark new inspiration. As an artist, this gave me some inspiration for my future artwork! I look forward to future Art After Work events.

Art After Work is held every first Thursday of the month in the Social Hall Parlour next to the art museum, and each month we look forward to bringing you something new! – Art Museum Staff

Although the museum will be closed tomorrow for our exhibit change we will still be holding our monthly Book Club event on Thursday, April 20th at 4pm at The St. George Art Museum.

Book club is a great way to explore new books, meet new people, and have some great conversations! Book Club is also a free event! The book we will be discussing is Girl in Hyacinth Blue a great novel by Susan Vreeland

A professor invites a colleague from the art department to his home to view a painting he has kept secret for decades in Susan Vreeland’s powerful historical novel, Girl in Hyacinth Blue. The professor swears it’s a Vermeer — but why exactly has he kept it hidden so long? The reasons unfold in a gripping sequence of stories that trace ownership of the work back to Amsterdam during World War II and still further to the moment of the painting’s inception — Goodreads

We hope to see you tomorrow for this great monthly event!
